──Oct 12 , 2026Japan’s Frozen & Chilled Food Industry First Introduces a 3D Automated Sorting System

GINFON’s self-developed and manufactured 3D cross-belt sorter, “3D Nexus Sorter,” has been piloted by Nexa Ware Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Nexa Ware”) at the Kisaishi Logistics Sales Office of Ryutsu Service Co., Ltd. (Note 2) (hereinafter “Ryutsu Service”).

The project is designed for frozen and chilled food sorting operations in refrigerated environments, aiming to improve logistics efficiency and achieve more efficient and intelligent food sorting through 3D automated sorting technology.

The system began operation on December 16, 2025, providing a new practical case for the introduction of 3D sorting technology into Japan’s frozen and chilled food logistics sector.

3D Nexus Sorter Officially Begins Operation at Ryutsu Service’s Kisaishi Logistics Sales Office

Shipping operations for frozen and chilled foods must be carried out in refrigerated environments and require handling under various conditions, including product size, shape, and shipping method. In addition, working space is subject to numerous constraints, while relatively few material handling equipment solutions can provide sufficient vertical handling performance in refrigerated environments. As a result, the adoption of automation and labor-saving equipment has traditionally lagged behind.

To improve shipping efficiency within limited space, the 3D Nexus Sorter adopts height-adjustable, lift-type high-speed cross-belt sorting technology.

Key features include:

(1) Supports Diverse Layouts

It can accommodate a variety of equipment layouts, including Loop and L-shaped configurations.

(2) Suitable for Sorting Items Prone to Rolling

With stopper bars and a cross-belt sorting structure, the system can effectively handle rod-shaped and other easily rolling items, enabling stable conveying and sorting.

(3) High Throughput and Excellent Maintainability

Combining high throughput with excellent maintainability, the system helps improve logistics efficiency in refrigerated environments and provides high-performance sorting capabilities to support operational improvements.

With the official launch of this pilot implementation, GINFON Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, Cai Xi, commented:

“GINFON and Nexa Ware have continuously worked together on technology planning and R&D to achieve high-precision, high-throughput sorting operations.

The official launch of the 3D Nexus Sorter pilot implementation in a refrigerated environment marks an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies. We firmly believe that this project will contribute to labor saving, stable operation, and the development of high-quality logistics, while creating further value.

Going forward, GINFON will continue to deepen its partnership with Nexa Ware and contribute to building next-generation logistics automation infrastructure for sustainable development.”

Product Features of the 3D Nexus Sorter

(1) High-Throughput Sorting with Cross-Belt Lift-Type 3D Sorting Units

By allowing cross-belt carriers to move vertically with flexibility during operation and perform sorting at high speed, the system enables precise and efficient sorting operations.

The equipment can process up to 6,000 items per hour, providing high sorting throughput while effectively reducing sorting and shipping errors and enabling high-quality, high-efficiency, space-saving shipping operations.

(2) Flexible Multi-Level Chute Configuration to Meet Diverse Shipping Requirements

Based on daily shipping volume, the number of sorting destinations, product shapes, and other operational requirements, the chutes can be configured in a multi-level structure of up to five levels, flexibly adapting to different site conditions.

Multiple types of chutes can be installed on a single sorter, enabling simultaneous sorting for multiple clients as well as classification of different product groups.

In addition, operators only need to place products one by one at the induction point, after which the subsequent sorting process is completed automatically. This reduces the workload associated with operator training and lowers training costs and the burden on on-site personnel.

(3) Modular Unit Design for Flexible and Scalable Layouts

The equipment adopts a modular unit design and assembly structure. Based on site installation conditions, standard units can be combined to flexibly accommodate a variety of equipment layouts.

The system also supports capacity expansion and relocation. When logistics volume, product types, or installation sites change, the equipment can be adjusted quickly and flexibly to meet evolving business needs.

In addition, the equipment uses standardized units and an anchor-less structure. Under standard installation conditions, installation can be completed within two weeks, effectively shortening the implementation cycle and minimizing the impact of installation work on on-site operations.

(4) Leveraging Equipment Operating Data to Drive Digital Transformation (DX) of Operations, Maintenance, and Business Management

By monitoring sorter operating data in real time, the equipment provides remote service functions when faults occur, enabling rapid recovery. It can also detect potential faults through early warnings and provide maintenance-related information, effectively improving operational stability and maintenance efficiency.

Furthermore, by managing multiple logistics centers equipped with the 3D Nexus Sorter through a unified data platform, operational information and equipment status at each logistics center can provide data support for management decisions such as workforce allocation, inventory management, and sales planning.
